In a highly anticipated test debut, forward Akira Ioane, who first donned the black jersey in a non-test on the 2017 All Blacks Northern Hemisphere tour, will start at No. 6.
Hooker Asafo Aumua, who also played two non-tests on the same tour, will also debut off the bench alongside two 2020 All Blacks, 20-year-old forward Cullen Grace and 22-year-old defender Will. Jordan.
It will also be a special day for Lock Sam Whitelock, who will make his 100th test start for New Zealand in his 120th test, becoming the fifth player to mark a century of test start for the All Blacks.
Meanwhile, head coach Ian Foster has also made several changes to the team that thrashed the Wallabies in Sydney last weekend.
Codie Taylor starts hooker, while Scott Barrett starts in the second row, with Patrick Tuipulotu moving to the bench. Ardie Savea returns to jersey number 8, along with Ioane and captain Sam Cane, with Grace entering through Dalton Papalii as reserve forward.
In the back, TJ Perenara starts as a running back, with Brad Weber coming off the bench in his first appearance in 2020, giving starting starter Aaron Smith a break. Beauden Barrett will start at 10 with Damian McKenzie entering the bench, while Ngani Laumape will start in the second fifth eighth.
On the outside backs, Jordie Barrett starts as fullback and Rieko Ioane starts on the left wing, with Sevu Reece also making his first start of 2020 on the right wing.
Foster said the team is a “reset”, having secured the Bledisloe Cup last Saturday.
“We have rebooted this week and our focus has been on this weekend and Investec Tri Nations.
“It’s an All Blacks-Wallabies test and that’s special. We know how excited they will be, so we have to make sure we are too, because we don’t want to give ourselves any excuses in the end.”
Foster said the Wallabies clash presents an opportunity for some players to rest, as well as to reward others who have raised their hands in practice.
“We are really delighted with the entire squad, so we feel like there are some players who are really raising their hands and deserve a chance.”
“Second, it’s been a great three-week test series to date against Australia. It will be another massive test, so we’ve brought some freshness and new energy to the group. Players are jumping out of their skins to get into the park.”
Foster said the four players named to play his first tryout had been working hard and had earned the opportunity.
“We are really impressed with Akira. He’s really looking forward to it, he’s ready and having his first test outing is quite special.
“I know Asafo is also excited for his first test and will bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm when he comes off the bench.
“Cullen Grace is a young man who has also been very impressive. He has a nice, calm demeanor about him, but we know he’s excited.
“Will Jordan has also been working very hard. He has adjusted very, very well and is calm. He has been doing a great job behind the scenes and we are delighted that he is getting his chance.”
