Harry and Meghan’s revealing interview with Oprah means they’re ready to lose all their remaining royal titles.
The Daily Mail revealed today that the Queen will ask them to renounce their ties to any organization associated with royalty.
This means that Harry will be stripped of his three military titles and possibly his ties to the Rugby Football League, the Rugby Football Union and the London Marathon.
And Meghan would have to give up her role as patron of the National Theater. It was seen as a huge gesture of support when he was awarded the position in 2019, as the Queen had held the position for 45 years.
The couple’s ties to the Commonwealth are another gray area, but sources say they will likely lose them too.
CBS confirmed last night that Meghan has accepted a “broad” interview with Oprah, one of the most powerful women in show business in America. The interview is believed to have already been recorded.
In addition to being close friends, the two women are also neighbors. Oprah went to the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018 and also hooked up a variety of superfood lattes that Meghan has invested in.
One source has described the interview as “one of the most inevitable and, sadly, predictable consequences” of Megxit.
Harry will also join the 90-minute show, which will air next month on CBS. The couple will speak openly for the first time about their shocking decision to leave the UK and renounce their roles as royals.
It comes after the news that the couple is expecting another baby. The Sussexes shared the news on Valentine’s Day and revealed that they are “full of joy.”
But deciding to take part in Oprah’s interview means they risk angering royalty, and it could also widen divisions between Harry, William and Kate.
The interview will consist of two parts. Meghan will first talk about her life as royalty, motherhood, marriage and the pressures of her public role.
Harry will then join her in discussing Megxit’s move and her “future hopes and dreams for her expanding family.”
Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, will air on March 7.
Last night, Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the interview, which will air six weeks before the Queen’s 95th birthday and before Prince Philip’s 100th birthday celebrations.
A royal source said that as Harry and Meghan are no longer members of royalty, their decisions regarding “media engagements are a matter for them” and they had “no obligation” to inform the rest of royalty about it .
