Benee’s debut album has earned accolades overseas.

On Sunday night, Benee scored high in the Aotearoa Music Awards winning Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Artist, an International Achievement and Single of the Year award.

The independent says his debut album is “an extremely promising start”, earning him four stars.

“(Supalonely) The song itself is great, but luckily their debut album, Hey ux, proves that it is much more than a TikTok wonder.

“The omnivorous, chaotic approach to sonic influences may be distracting, but it fits with Benee’s themes.”

In its four-star review, the New Musical Express says it is an “eclectic collection where Benee’s greatest strength is being herself.”

The UK music newspaper believes that “the Auckland native is not a one-hit wonder; This is an ambitious and adventurous feat that showcases Benee’s pop-hook style and range of genre bending.

“Really though, ‘Hey ux’ is the sound of a pop star who is resolutely herself and ultimately, it doesn’t get any cooler than that.”

Although The Guardian it gave the release four stars, it came with a warning about the album’s 13 tracks.

“The genre jump improves the quality of the album mosaic, but is sometimes disappointed by Bennett’s carefree delivery when he slows down.

“If I Get to Meet You fades into a slurred voice stain, while the choppy A Little While feels overly polite”

Benee has a busy summer ahead of her.

It has top billing for several summer festivals, including Rhythm & Vines, Rhythm & Alps, and Wellington’s newest event, Downtown Shakedown, in a year in which closed international borders have led to many of the same local acts appearing in the festival lineups.
