Peters has won over Kiwi Shortland Street megastar Teuila Blakely, who ran into him on the campaign trail and told him she had his vote.
“New Zealand First for life, always vote for your uncle, you know that,” he told her.
But this time it doesn’t seem to be enough. New Zealand First is down 1.9 percent in the latest Newshub-Reid Research survey.
“I have no respect for their polls,” Peters told Newshub.
Peters said he is confident his game will return.
“Of course I’ve always believed it, and we have all these years.”
So the old saying goes, Winston Peters should never be discounted. But it’s getting harder and harder to believe that he will return as we approach Election Day, and the poll numbers are not increasing.
His votes have gone to the Prime Minister he anointed, Labor leader Jacinda Ardern, and have been eaten up by his nemesis, ACT leader David Seymour, who is attracting attention.
The latest Newshub poll has ACT at 6.3 percent and Seymour is fizzy with the result.
“I’m going to work even harder, this result energizes ACT, we are putting some red in the campaign,” he told Newshub.
He is now shoulder to shoulder with the Greens, fighting for third place in Parliament.
After the Omni Green School disaster, 6.5 percent is a revolt for the Greens.
Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson said people received “well” co-leader James Shaw’s apology for the Green School debacle.
But she seemed incredulous when Newshub told her the party’s voting numbers.
“6.5! Wait …”
She takes nothing for granted.
“We need to be well above 5 percent in the polls to feel any kind of comfort that we will be back.”
The latest Newshub-Reid Research survey was conducted between September 16-23, 2020, surveying 1,000 people: 700 by phone and 300 by internet panel. It has a margin of error of 3.1 percent.
