“I found out that a lot of them were working because a lot of National Party people are busy working,” Collins said.
Despite a rough week in the season, Collins insists she “really loved it” and says she doesn’t feel like her team is sabotaging her.
“No, not at all,” he said.
But an email from National MP Denise Lee that was leaked to Newshub last week continues to haunt the campaign. Newshub was informed Monday that a witch hunt is underway to find the source of the leak, but Collins denies this.
“No, definitely not,” he said.
When asked who he thought leaked the information, Collins said: “Someone who received it.”
That would be the entire caucus and party chairman Peter Goodfellow admits he dealt a blow to National.
“I think he crushed us, but actually we are over it,” he told Newshub.
Collins doesn’t think he crushed National’s campaign.
“No, I think the really important thing is that everyone is focused,” he said.
Caucus leaks are bad overall, potentially catastrophic during a campaign; even Goodfellow described them as “never useful.”
Neither are accusations of plagarism. National’s best friends ACT are taking a chance with a National campaign ad that reads, “Only one party’s vote for National will change your future.”
The problem is, that’s the ACT motto.
ACT leader David Seymour says he’s used to it.
“We are used to having to devise a policy for them, now we also have to invent slogans.”
