A Royal New Zealand Air Force staff member was arrested after an incident at their Auckland base that left a colleague so seriously injured he was taken to hospital.

A police spokesman has confirmed to the Herald that they were called in to report an incident at the Whenuapai base shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, where a man was injured.

“A man was arrested and has been accused of wounding with reckless indifference,” the spokesman said.

The New Zealand Defense Force confirmed to the Herald that police were called to their Auckland air force base after an “isolated incident involving two service personnel.”

“A person from the service was taken to hospital after the incident,” said a spokeswoman.

“A second person on duty was arrested by the New Zealand police.

“The RNZAF is supporting those involved and those who witnessed the event.”

The NZDF declined to answer further questions from the Herald.

Police also declined to comment further on the incident.
