Those in the south should prepare for the wet weather this week.
Metservice has issued a heavy rain watch for North Otago, Dunedin and Clutha from Balclutha northbound since 9 a.m. M. From Friday until 3 a.m. M. From Sunday.
“Rain is expected to increase during Friday and is likely to increase at times during Saturday. Rain accumulations during Friday and Saturday may meet or exceed the lower warning thresholds for these areas (40mm accumulated in 12 hours).
“However, during Saturday, there is a possibility that the risk of significant amounts of rain will increase in these areas,” he said on the Metservice website.
An update will be issued before 9pm on Thursday.
Metservice also predicts that it is possible for a lot of rain in the eastern areas of Otago.
“A low is expected to slow to the south west of New Zealand on Friday, bringing rain to the south of the South Island on Friday and Saturday.
“In the eastern areas of Otago, rain is combining with an easterly flow on land and accumulations can meet or exceed warning thresholds.”
The forecast for New Year’s Eve is also bleak: the west coast may receive erratic rains later in the day, while parts of the interior of Southland, Otago and South Canterbury could see downpours, turning into rain overnight, according to Weatherwatch. .
It could be a wet night for those heading to Rhythm and Alps, as rain is expected around Wanaka tonight.
