Downton Abbey star Jim Carter has confirmed that a second sequel to the hit television series is in the works, filming will begin in 2021.
Carter, who played resident butler Charles Carson, says the cast has already received a script for a sequel, following the success of the first film last year.
Interviewed by ITV’s This Morning, the actor did not reveal any details about the script, other than that it is full of humor.
“If you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll let you know that we’ve seen a script … The script for a second movie is there. We’ve seen it, it’s a lot of fun,” he said.
“It has all the same characters, all the regulars, and I think the testament is, if Covid wants, we will film next year,” he added.
Carter was on the show to talk about Downton Abbey’s upcoming 10th anniversary.
He told the show’s hosts that it doesn’t seem like 10 years have passed.
“It’s amazing. Does it feel like 10 years? [does] It seems like an eternity ago And I looked down my bookshelves and found this: a bound script from the first edition of the first Downton Abbey script, “he said.
“And I had a little wave of nostalgia and my first scene, it says” Carson the butler sits in his magnificence “… and my first line was’ Ah, William, are there papers yet? … like newspapers being delivered! “
