Rowan Chivers found $ 4000 in an envelope on the side of a road in New Plymouth.
From the top of his unicycle, Rowan Chivers often sees things that others do not see, but this time he saw 4,000 things.
Earlier this month, the New Plymouth man found $ 4,000 in an envelope in a gutter while traveling down a street in Merrilands. He had stopped to pick it up, thinking it was someone’s mail.
“I thought ‘whoa’,” he said.
For a moment, Chivers, a well-known cyclist in the district, gambled with what he could spend the windfall profit, but eventually knew he would turn it over to the police.

“It would be very bad karma if I kept it, because it is not mine,” he said.
“Whoever it was would have been trashing the house looking for him.”
Chivers immediately took the money to the New Plymouth Police Station and also left his phone number in case the owner wanted to reach him.
The next day, he received a call from the police telling him that the money had been returned to the owner.
The person had inadvertently left the envelope on top of his car and then left. It was not known what the cash was for.
Chivers doesn’t know who the money belonged to, as his request was to remain anonymous, but he has since received special thanks for his honesty.

He immediately turned the wad of bills over to the police and has since received two rewards for his honesty.
Last Friday, police handed Chivers $ 100 at the request of the cash owner, then found a thank you note with another $ 100 in his mailbox.
He is not sure who the second reward came from, but he deduced that it was related to the cash back because it was addressed to the “honest man.”
Chivers gave the second $ 100 to his friend’s children to “help keep the karma flowing.”
“I’m not particularly rich, but the first reward was enough.”
A police spokesperson confirmed that someone who had misplaced an envelope containing $ 4,000 in the Merrilands area made a report on Monday, December 14.
The money was found and turned over to the police and then returned to its owner, who thanked the searcher through the police, the spokesperson confirmed.
