The savage online “Fake Melania” conspiracy theory has resurfaced, with a recent photograph that left many convinced that a look-alike body double was replacing America’s First Lady.

The photograph, taken Oct. 22, shows Melania and her husband Donald Trump boarding Marine One on the south lawn of the White House in Washington. Melania is shown smiling, wearing large dark glasses that mask much of her face:

As the photo circulated online today, many insisted they were convinced it was not the “real” Melania and pointed to older photos that they claimed also suggested the use of body double. Of particular concern, Melania’s smile in the photo, which many claimed did not match her smile in other photos:

Conspiracy theories that Trump used body doubles to replace his wife have circulated for years; In 2018, some were convinced that it was a “fake Melania” coming out of Air Force One:

Rumors about the First Lady’s body double first went viral in October 2017, after actress and comedian Andrea Wagner Barton posted her theory on Facebook.

And Melania is not the only American political figure accused of using a decoy.

In 2016, there were claims that Hillary Clinton had been replaced by a body double after she collapsed at a September 11 memorial service in New York after a battle with pneumonia.

The bizarre double body rumors come after Melania and her husband Donald Trump appeared to suffer a very awkward moment at the end of the final US presidential debate this week.

The footage shows the pair exiting the stage hand in hand before Melania can be seen quickly pulling her hand away from the president.

Before the debate, Melania was photographed with Trump for the first time since he tested positive for Covid-19 three weeks ago.
