The MGM feature was originally scheduled to hit theaters in April 2020, but was delayed until November after the Covid-19 pandemic forced theaters around the world to close.

Although theaters have begun to reopen, there are serious concerns about their survival. Earlier this month, the launch of No time to die was postponed until April 2021.

McWeeny did not say exactly how much the Daniel Craig film could sell for, but he tweeted that there is “great pressure” for MGM to sell the film.

“‘And there are some MONSTER deals on the tables,” he said.

The studio was said to be seeking a roughly $ 600 million deal.

Moving No time to die to a streaming service poses some logistical challenges. The movie cost more than $ 250 million to produce and has several promotional partnerships, such as Land Rover, Omega watches, and Heineken, to consider.

Other studios, such as Paramount and Sony, have made tens of millions selling movies like Greyhound, Coming 2 America Y No regrets to streaming services.

MGM declined to comment on conversations with streaming services, according to Bloomberg, but said the film “is not for sale.”

Delays in big-budget movie releases have hit the global film industry hard.

Cineworld is hibernating its 128 cinemas in Great Britain and is also considering doing the same with its 543 cinemas in the United States. The company blamed a cascade of big-budget movie postponements.

Independent Cinema Association president Matt Bell said the studios remain focused on the theatrical releases of his films.

“A good theatrical release sets up a movie for a lifetime,” he said.

“That was one of the reasons Mulan, for example, it was a failure. He hasn’t had that public proof of being there. “

Disney’s live-action movie went straight to Disney Plus for an additional $ 30 fee on top of their $ 7 subscription fee.

New Zealand cinemas will inevitably be affected by changes and delays in the release of films.

“It certainly has an impact. As a small market in New Zealand and Australia, we follow whatever the leadership of the United States, Europe and China, “said Bell.

“There are many films, but they are not the highest grossing. It makes it more difficult, ”he said.

“We have enough in New Zealand to keep us going, but some cinemas are losing money, others will be making money and many will be simply to cover expenses.”

Responding to someone who commented on a tweet about the Amazon Studios acquisition of Coming 2 America, McWeeny speculated that the new Bond movie could sell for several hundred million dollars.

No time to die it will mark Daniel Craig’s last appearance as James Bond.
