On Tuesday afternoon, National Party leader Simon Bridges raised the alarm about some elements of the bill.
He wondered why people were allowed to go to the movies, but not cry to a loved one.
“There may be sports games with physical contact, and yet, in one of life’s most tragic moments, a funeral, immediate family members cannot attend.
“That is not only unkind, it is inhumane. We can do better than that,” he said.
National Congresswoman Judith Collins endorsed Bridges, saying the government is “rushing.”
“The government is rushing through legislation to empower itself to implement what it says is necessary for the Level 2 response to COVID -19,” it posted on Facebook on Tuesday.
“Law enforcement officers, whoever they are, will have powers to enter the premises and close businesses. The police will have the power to enter your home without a warrant. This is crazy!
“The National Party must support the rule of law and not endorse and support the latest political decree.”
