Police who tried to catch a mysterious and wandering seal on the Wellington Urban Highway showed up at the scene and found nothing there.

A police spokeswoman said that around half a dozen motorists had called police about the animal’s presence on the capital’s 100km / h highway on Friday night.

The first call to the police was around 7.45pm.

It was blocking a lane at 8 p.m., the spokeswoman said. Motorists had reported that they had seen the stamp on the shoulder of the freeway between Hutt Rd and the Aotea Quay exit ramp.

The seal had not been hit or an accident had occurred, the spokeswoman confirmed.

Officers had come to the scene in an attempt to catch the seal, but found no animals present, the spokeswoman said later Friday.

Police were not sure if she had been spooked by traffic and left the scene.

Stuff neither could he locate the animal.
