It was not a meteorite, but it is no longer a UFO.
A strange object seen in the sky above Queenstown on Wednesday night was actually an airplane.
Yesterday, the Otago Daily Times reported that Matt Wilcox saw something strange in the sky.
Seeing him on camera, he said he was visible for about a minute before he was behind the Remarkables and out of sight.

Mosgiel resident Bruce Smaill, team leader at Dunedin Airport, said it was actually a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operated by LATAN airlines, flying a repatriation flight from Sydney to Santiago, Chile, flying at 37,000 feet.
He used binoculars to take a closer look and could see the anti-collision light blinking.
“I found it [the plane] on Flight Radar right away, and then there was another one about an hour later, on exactly the same flight path. “
Astronomer Mike Bailey of the Southland Astronomical Society had initially examined Mr. Wilcox’s images and believed that the object was a meteorite.
