Murder Convict Released After Escaping Police Custody at Middlemore Hospital | 1 NEWS

Police are looking for a murder convict who escaped from police custody while in a south Auckland hospital this morning.

Katrina Epiha, 22, was last seen running towards Gray Avenue in Māngere after fleeing from Corrections staff while at Middlemore Hospital around 12:30 a.m., police say.

She was last seen in a long-sleeved black T-shirt with a white shirt underneath, gray sweatpants, and light pink sneakers.

Epiha also has large distinctive tattoos on both sides of her face.

Epiha was sentenced to life in prison, with a period without parole of at least 10 years, in May 2019 for the stabbing death of Alicia Nathan in Christchurch two years earlier.

Police said today that she is considered dangerous and that the public should not approach her.

Anyone who sees Epiha should call 111 immediately.
