An early morning motorcyclist crash at an accident-prone Taranaki intersection has been caught on camera.
In the pictures, the cyclist loses control of his machine on Devon Rd, Northgate, while heading to New Plymouth around 1.40am on Wednesday.
It shows the cyclist cutting through an island of traffic at the intersection with Watson St and taking off slightly before exiting his bike, which glides down the road in a shower of sparks.
Police arrived moments after the accident, but a spokeswoman said officers were not pursuing the motorcyclist.

A spokeswoman for St John’s ambulance said a patient was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital with moderate injuries.
The spill was captured by a newly installed security camera erected by Murray Chong after a series of vandalism on his property just across the road from the crash site.
Chong said he intended to set up the cameras for a while.
“I wanted to do it to capture the crashes at this intersection.”
He said motorists in the area had been a constant problem for years.
“I knew he would have had an accident in the first month.”
In June 2018, an alcoholic beverage driver drove through the yard of a car next to the intersection causing $ 13,000 in damage and in March 2019 another crashed into a streetlight just outside.
The owner of the car yard, Darryl Macdonald, claimed that in 2019 there were about 10 crashes on the scene in a year.
Police said a patrol was in the area and was aware of the vehicle, as it had been observed traveling at an allegedly excessive speed minutes before the accident.
“However, a persecution had not started.”
Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
