A discussion about Marae this morning resulted in host Miriama Kamo berating the three male panelists for acting like children and ignoring the women on the show.
During this morning’s TVNZ show, Hone Harawira ignored Kamo’s attempts to give other panelists a chance to speak and yell at Harawira that she is taking over and to stop.
Willie Jackson and Tau Henare also start to have problems with each other.
Jackson, Harawira and Henare began talking to each other as a nervous Kamo struggled to maintain control of the situation and admits that he is “getting out of control”.
“You guys are bullying each other,” Kamo said.
At one point, Jackson can be seen pointing his finger and saying that Henare thinks he’s a big shot, while Henare repeatedly tells him to calm down in a patronizing way.
She then tried to bring in the only other woman on the panel, former Labor MP Georgina Beyer, while the men continued to talk about her.
Then adopt her best directorial impression.
“Guys. Hey, stop. Stop. This is disrespectful. Excuse me, you’re in the Marae … Stop. This is not right,” Kamo said.
“For the love of God, they are like children. This is shameful, you are meant to represent our people and all you are doing is yelling at each other and not listening to the women on this panel, so calm down.”
The men finally stop and give Beyer the floor.
Marae tweeted after the show: “In Marae we offer a space to listen to different perspectives. This morning it got out of hand. A great ngā mihi to our host @MiriamaKamo for remaining professional.”
One follower posted that it was an “embarrassing adult show.” “Miriama, they were disrespectful and I hope you ‘slapped’ them for that. It was embarrassing and a witch hunt. How soon people forget that when they took their place in Parliament, they did not do better.”
Another commented that Henare was “belligerent and eager to fight from the start, and Hone was just aggressive, rude and offensive.”
