Two men were brought to safety by helicopter and boat after a small boat sank south of Christchurch.
The ship sank approximately half a kilometer from Greenpark Huts on the north shore of Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere), near the Banks Peninsula, with two people on board.
Police were alerted Wednesday afternoon that the boat was in trouble.
A police spokeswoman said a man was pulled out of the water by the Westpac rescue helicopter around 5.40 pm and brought on board.
He has been airlifted to Christchurch Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The second man was rescued from the lake by boat before being treated on shore by St John Ambulance.
Previously, the police reported that people on shore could hear the voices of men in the lake after the boat sank.
