Police launched a homicide investigation after the death of a man in Nukuhou in the Bay of Plenty (file photo).

Now you can name a man who died after a Christmas Eve mess in the eastern Bay of Plenty.

It was Wipatene Mason from Waimana.

Emergency services were called to an address in Nukuhou, southeast of Whakatāne, on December 24 at around 5 pm after reports of an “incident of disorder,” police said in a statement.

Mason, 41, died on December 26 while two other men were taken to hospital with serious injuries from the incident.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with injuring with intent to cause serious bodily harm and his upcoming appearance in Whakatāne District Court on January 20.

More charges are likely to be filed as a result of the investigation.

The police would like to hear from anyone who has not yet spoken to them and knows anything that might be helpful to their investigation.
