A man is in critical condition at Christchurch Hospital after a shooting near Hereford Street this afternoon.

Police say they were called to the scene at 2 pm where a man had suffered serious injuries as a result of a gunshot.
Detective Sergeant Major Craig Farrant said in a statement that police are currently speaking with multiple people in connection with the shooting.
“Police want to assure the community that while firearm events always present an unacceptable risk, it is believed that there is no ongoing risk to the general public,” Farrant said.
Examinations of the scene are currently underway and the police are asking the public for any information that may assist with the investigation.
