A 34-year-old man died of his injuries after being attacked in Palmerston North.
Police said the man, named in court documents as Ricky Osgood, was assaulted on Rugby St at 11:30 am Tuesday.
He was taken to Palmerston North Hospital for surgery, but died
A 32-year-old Palmerston North man with name suppression is charged with Osgood’s murder.

The defendant appeared in Palmerston North District Court on Wednesday, wearing a blue police suit and carrying documents.
Defense attorney Paul Murray asked Judge Stephanie Edwards to delete the man’s name because he needed time to inform his family.
The judge granted the request and held the man in custody until a Superior Court appearance in late September.
Police would like to speak to anyone in the area around Rugby St on Tuesday, who may have information that may assist in the investigation.
This included people who were seen up close in a silver or gray truck.
