A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder following a morning death in Christchurch.
Police were called to an address in Edgeware at 2.47am Sunday and a police cordon was set up at the intersection of Gresford St and Champion St.
Officers found a seriously injured man who was taken to Christchurch Hospital, where he later died.
The area was still blocked on Sunday afternoon.
A 31-year-old man arrested at the scene has now been charged with the murder of the 44-year-old victim. Stuff understand that the two men were neighbors.
The 31-year-old will appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday.

Five nearby residents he spoke to Stuff all said they had not heard anything during the night.
Inside the cordon, on the way, there was a towel with what appeared to be blood.
Some residents said police had previously been called to an apartment block at the corner of Gresford and Champion streets, which were within the cordon.
At 3 p.m., the scene was still cordoned off and forensic investigators could be seen moving in and out of a tent that had been erected in the middle of the intersection. A mobile police base was stationed at the scene with a uniformed police officer on duty.
Some passersby watched the activities on the other side of the police tape with interest as they passed.
Two residents of properties near the scene said investigators had not spoken to them and had not been given more information about when the area would open.
