Wellington-based combat gym The Lion Pit is involved in a sexual assault investigation following an incident at an event in mid-December.
A man has been charged with three counts of indecent assault and one count of administering a class B drug after an investigation involving a Wellington gym.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that the 28-year-old was due to appear in Wellington District Court on March 15.
The charges follow an investigation into an alleged incident in mid-December at a Christmas party event for the central city’s combat gym, The Lion Pit.
Previously, the police said they had received three reports of indecent assault and asked people to refrain from posting on social media about the allegations.
A spokesperson for The Lion Pit apologized after a woman who made some of the allegations said she had been kicked out of the gym and blocked her social media.
They also apologized after a person using their social media account called online commenters about the allegations “a bunch of dumb, gullible, moron sheep with no facts, context or evidence.”
The comments were in response to people who raised concerns about the gym’s handling of the allegations.
In a statement to Things, the gym said the comments “do not reflect the TLP, its culture and the care it has for its members and the community.”
“We would like to apologize for these comments and their impact. The person responsible for them will have nothing more to do with this matter. “
