Police made an arrest after a man was allegedly assaulted in Rotorua on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm at a public swimming stream known as the “hot and cold” pools on Waiotapu Loop Rd near Rotorua, police said in a statement.
A 19-year-old man was arrested and police are working to identify and detain the other suspected criminals involved.
The arrested man has been charged with injuring with intent to cause serious bodily harm and robbery, police said in a statement.
He is due tomorrow in Rotorua District Court.
A Wellington man who was on vacation in Rotorua reported that he was left with a broken bone and bruises on his face after the incident.
He told RNZ he was with friends at the pools when a group of men approached them.
He said four of his friends fled to shore, while he was left with another man, unable to get out of the pool.
He reported that he was knocked out in the water before running onto State Highway 5, where a car stopped and helped him call the police.
