A man has been charged by New Plymouth Police with possession of MDMA for supply, threat of death, careless use of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop or determine injury after an accident.
Police also found 28 grams of cocaine, 28 grams of MDMA, 7 grams of methamphetamine, and a quantity of cash in the man’s car.
Following the arrest of the 28-year-old on Sunday night, a search warrant was carried out yesterday at a residential address in Hawera, where another 500g of MDMA was discovered.
Police were called into a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Courtenay St and Eliot St around 6.15pm Sunday.
One of the vehicles fled the scene, but was later located by the police and the arrested driver.
The man has been taken into custody to reappear in New Plymouth District Court next month, Thursday, October 15.
Detective Sergeant Gerard Bouterey says the arrest is significant to the Taranaki community.
“Drugs and associated crime cause significant harm in our community and generally affect the most vulnerable,” said Bouterey.
“This arrest shows that the police will continue to persecute those who seek to profit from such damage and hold them accountable.”
