3:20 pm: Francesca Cumani isolates in the middle of the Melbourne Cup
Racing identity Francesca Cumani was forced into isolation after her father, Luca Cumani, recorded a positive test for COVID-19.
Cumani, one of the biggest stars in the racing world, was unable to return to Australia for the 2020 Melbourne Cup due to border restrictions.
Channel 10 announced last month that the famous coach’s daughter would continue to be part of Ten’s coverage despite staying in the UK.
Ten’s broadcast took another hit Tuesday with Cumani forced to appear in coverage via Zoom because she was forced to isolate herself after her father’s test result.
He made his first live crossover with Ten’s Melbourne studio from his dining room.
“The coronavirus is the reason why Francesca Cumani cannot join us in Australia this year for the Melbourne Cup. But it was even more serious when Cesca’s father was diagnosed with COVID-19 and she was placed in isolation,” said ten sports host Stephen Quartermain said.
Cumani told Ten that her father appears to be relatively healthy despite his troubling diagnosis.
“As you can see, a different scenario here. I am home and isolated now,” he said.
“He (his father) is, fortunately, so far, fine. He just had a little sore throat and was feeling a bit depressed, so he took a test and it came back positive. As a result, we have all just closed. My mother still feels good and, fortunately, so far, everything is fine. “

1.30pm: great malaise in Flemington
Unrestricted caused a huge surprise by crossing the line first at World Horse Racing Desirable Stakes.
The horse was an outsider of rank, paying $ 34.50 for the win, but he came home ahead of Pride Of Jenni (second), Ripper Rita (third) and Sweet Reply (fourth).
Finance Tycoon was the first horse to savor victory today, galloping to victory at the Darley Maribyrnong Plate.
The second was Congratiating, the third was Marine One and the fourth was Treporti.
11.30am: Legendary coach criticizes Victorian government
There has been an early drama at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day with one of the internationals eliminated from the race.
King of Leogrance, a member of coach Danny O’Brien’s running army, was recalled after a veterinary inspection revealed he was lame in his front leg.
Iconic coach Gai Waterhouse also lashed out at Victorian Premier Dan Andrews when he expressed his disgust at the ban on attending spectators due to Covid-19 restrictions, accusing authorities of overreacting “completely”.
“It’s pretty ridiculous the way they’ve gone in Victoria,” he told 2GB’s Ben Fordham. “The prime minister should wake up and let the people go about their business.
“Of course, social distance … but you can’t have the country cut to its knees!”
10.30am: straight from the horse’s mouth – King Of Leogrance ‘break the silence’
“I am 100 percent devastated to miss the Melbourne Cup,” said the horse *.
“I love wearing number 14. It is a privilege to race for Flemington and a privilege to be selected to represent France.
“As an athlete and competitor, I take pride in performing no matter how my body feels, but I also accept that the veterinary staff has my best interest at heart in making this decision.
“I will be cheering loudly from the stable and working tirelessly to earn my place in the race next year.”
* If King of Leogrance could speak, we imagine this is what he would say.
10.15am: King of Leogrance out of the Cup
We will have a 23 horse field in today’s race after the Racing Victoria stewards announced King of Leogrance as a late scratch.
Owner Nick Williams said the gelding presented with a foot pulse.
“It’s one of those things that happens,” Williams told racing.com.
“He must have a little bruise somewhere or an abscess that is brewing. It would be one of the two.
“If it had come yesterday, we probably could have treated it and had a chance. If it had come tomorrow, it wouldn’t have been a problem.
“Unfortunately, it arrived today. There is nothing we can do about it.”
Williams said the scratch was an embarrassment to coach Danny O’Brien and his team.
“It’s terribly disappointing when you have to get a horse out on race morning, particularly in a race as big as the Melbourne Cup,” he said.
“I am terribly disappointed for Danny (O’Brien and his team), who have cared for this horse since he was there. They put their heart and soul into him.
“They would have gone to bed last night thinking they were going to take a horse to the Melbourne Cup and to get there this morning and find it with a pulse in the foot would be terribly disappointing for them more than anyone.”
9.50 am: Flemington prepares to favor visitors
They are already considered two of the best chances to win the race and Anthony Van Dyck and Tiger Moth can go about their business with relative calm and ease.
Melbourne Cup-winning rider Corey Brown, who has supported Anthony Van Dyck to win the race, said the empty racetrack was a huge advantage for international raiders.
“This applies to all European horses; they are getting a great benefit from the fact that there is no crowd,” Brown wrote for foxsports.com.au. “Very often the great atmosphere on Cup Day gets them very upset and they may lose the race before it is run. That will not be the case with the Covid Cup.”
Six-time Melbourne Cup winner owner Lloyd Williams agreed and said it would be of added benefit to inexperienced horses like the betting favorite Tiger Moth.
“They have played into his hands this year. There are no crowds there, so for an inexperienced horse he will not face 100,000 people in the staging yard,” Williams told RadioTAB.
“If (rider Kerrin) McEvoy gives him a good ride, he’ll be hard to beat. I’d love to have him.
“As long as nothing goes wrong with this horse for the next 12 months, you will hear a lot from him.”
9am: Clear Melbourne Cup favorite emerges
A late stakes drop has seen Tiger Moth emerge as a standout favorite for the Melbourne Cup.
Despite a strong barrier tie, the light racing international’s connections have convinced punters that he is the real deal.
Tiger Moth went from $ 6.50 to $ 9 when the barrier draw was revealed, but since then the Irishman has rebounded into the good books of punters and is the favorite with the shortest price in the race at $ 6.50.
Anthony Van Dyck was the favorite for most of Sunday night and Monday morning, but he’s gone up to $ 9.50 and Surprise Baby is now the second favorite at $ 9.
Lloyd Williams, a six-time Melbourne Cup winner, believes Tiger Moth is “the perfect horse.”
Racing expert and presenter Francesca Cumani agreed, saying it’s “impossible to ignore.”
“He will have a lot of fans in the Cup because he has the ideal profile of being a three-year-old from the Northern Hemisphere with a light run, good CV and light weight (52.5 kg),” he said.
It’s not among the top contenders, but the other big driver on the market is Twilight Payment, which has dropped from $ 41 to $ 21 and is currently Ladbrokes’ worst result.
This is our full runner-by-runner preview followed by the top four predictions and the best betting strategy to spend $ 100 on the race.
