There are three new cases of Covid-19 in the community: a mother, father, and daughter in South Auckland.

The Director General of Health, Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, and the Minister of Covid, Chris Hipkins, will offer a press conference at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

On Saturday, health officials confirmed that a returnee, who had traveled from Zambia, died at North Shore Hospital in Auckland on Friday.

The patient had been transferred from an isolation facility administered for treatment of a non-Covid illness on February 5.

While they were in the hospital, they tested positive for Covid-19.

Chief Health Officer Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the patient had spoken with his family every day via zoom or on the phone.

The ministry said that Covid-19 prevention and infection protocols were in place and followed to ensure the safety of healthcare workers and the public.

There was no risk to the public and the ministry reported that the hospitals were still safe to visit.

The ministry said the patient’s death had not yet been included in its official Covid-related deaths at this time.

The official death toll from Covid-19 in New Zealand is currently 25.

On Saturday, two returnees who traveled from India tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases to 1972.

The couple are in an Auckland quarantine facility.
