Premier League club Leeds objected to a comment from expert Karen Carney.
Leeds has condemned the online abuse targeting Karen Carney after the Premier League club mocked a comment made by the former England player while working on a match broadcast.
But Leeds did not delete the tweet opposing Carney suggesting the club benefited from a three-month hiatus in play last season due to the pandemic, as it secured promotion to the first division after a 16-year exile. years.
Leeds posted a clip filmed by a supporter of Amazon Prime’s coverage of Leeds’ 5-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday (NZT). It led to the sexist abuse being directed at Carney.
Leeds said it “fully condemns any abuse received” by Carney, but did not delete the original tweet.

Carney played 144 times for England, including four World Cups.
“They (Leeds) outperform everyone and give them credit,” Carney said at Amazon. “My only concern would be, would they explode at the end of the season?
“We saw that in the last few seasons and I think they were promoted by Covid, in terms of it giving them a little breathing space. I don’t know if they would have gone up if they hadn’t had that break. “
Leeds, which has often responded to criticism from experts by taunting them on social media, only included the phrase “promoted by Covid” in the club’s tweet.
“Whether you agree with the comment or not, pointing out and ridiculing a person on an official club account is not what we are here for,” tweeted the group Women in Football. “Karen Carney is a knowledgeable expert. This tweet is provocative and inappropriate. It’s not looking good now, or anytime. “
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani defended the club’s actions.
Radrizzani, responding to a tweet that said Leeds should be ‘ashamed’ of their actions, wrote: ‘I take responsibility for the club’s tweet. I consider that comment (from Carney) to be completely unnecessary and disrespectful to our club and in particular , with the fantastic hard work of our players and coaches, who were understanding on the field during the last two Championship seasons by all statistics.
Radrizzani was supported by Brighton defender Ben White, who was on loan at Leeds last season when Marcelo Bielsa’s team claimed 93 points from 46 games to finish 10 points clear of second-placed West Brom.
White posted three crying emojis and current Leeds player Mateusz Klich also used emojis to show disgust at Carney’s comments.
Leeds’s beating of West Brom lifted them to 11th place in the Premier League with 23 points from 16 games.
