Ardern is also delaying making a call about who will be his deputy prime minister, be it Deputy Labor leader Kelvin Davis or his finance minister and best friend, Grant Robertson.
“No decisions have been made about roles and responsibilities yet,” Davis said.
“I fully support Kelvin, I want to say that he is the deputy leader of the Labor Party and will continue to be the deputy leader of the Labor Party, I am sure,” Robertson said.
But a Labor MP does not necessarily mean deputy prime minister.
“As far as the deputy leadership within the party goes, I do not intend to change that, however please take into account the entire role assignment that I will be working on for the next two weeks,” Ardern said.
At this winners party there are a couple of losers.
Helen White lost Auckland Central to Chloe Swarbrick of the Greens.
“Sorry?” White said when asked why he lost to Swarbrick. When the question was repeated, White said, “I’ll talk to you later.”
Tamati Coffey also looks set to lose Waiariki to Rawiri Waititi of the Maori Party.
“I have not conceded yet,” he said, alluding to the special votes that have yet to be announced.
That’s for another day.
“Today we are going to continue with the mahi,” Ardern told his group.
And with such a large and loud group, Labor definitely has his mahi made for it.
