A Christchurch man faces five charges after allegedly stabbing one person and robbing another at knife point.
The 31-year-old man was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, two hours after the police were called when they allegedly threatened a person with a knife and took away his phone.
Shortly thereafter, the police received a second report of an assault at Isabella Place, where a person was stabbed and seriously injured.
The injured person was taken to Christchurch Hospital, a St John spokesman said.

A police spokeswoman said the arrested man had been charged with assaulting police, aggravated robbery that caused serious bodily injury and three counts of aggravated robbery.
Not all the theft charges are related to incidents that occurred Monday, he said.
The man would appear in Christchurch District Court on Tuesday morning.
A witness said he was near the pawn shop on Ferry Rd by Isabella Place when he heard a woman yelling for help.

A neighbor of a nearby property said the incident was “a bit scary.”
The area had experienced some minor thefts, he said.

Armed police officers were then seen at the Mackenzie Courts housing complex on Ensors Rd, along with members of the armed criminal squad, at least a dozen police vehicles and a unit of police dogs.
The complex was cordoned off and one person was heard yelling from inside. More screaming and what sounded like glass breaking in the back of the house could be heard just before 6 p.m.
A man was taken into police custody shortly after 6 p.m. and the cordon was lifted.
