Kiwibank and TSB Bank have had some of their services offline today due to network issues. It is unclear if this is related to cyberattacks against New Zealand institutions over the past week.
TSB Bank’s online services fell this afternoon, but the bank did not say whether it was a cyberattack or not.
In a statement, TSB CEO Donna Cooper said the bank was working closely with local and international suppliers, the proper authorities had been informed and that the bank would work closely with them.
She did not want to comment further.
Kiwibank’s mobile app and internet banking loaded slowly for a few hours this afternoon, but a spokesperson said it was an internal problem.
On social media, the bank said it was due to network issues, and staff were aware of an issue with their mobile app and internet banking not working.
A spokesperson said the issue was not related to recent cyber attacks in New Zealand, which shut down the New Zealand Stock Exchange and did not affect media websites Stuff and RNZ.
“We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this may have caused them,” Kiwibank said.
The National Center for Cyber Security yesterday warned of an attack targeting financial institutions.
