Television presenter Katie Couric admitted she was “shaken” after an infamously “awkward” interview with Denzel Washington.
In an episode of Danny Pellegrino’s podcast, Couric recalled Dateline’s awkward interview with Washington for his movie The Manchurian Candidate.
“I love him. I admire him so much, he’s one of my favorite actors, but I remember feeling shaken because he had chased me in a completely strange way,” Couric said.

“I just remember leaving him and thinking, ‘God’ … I don’t think he said anything bad … I don’t know what happened.”
In the infamous Dateline interview, Couric asked Washington, 65, if he agrees with the idea that “the people of Hollywood should continue to act.”
“I don’t know what Hollywood people are in the first place,” he replied. “Hollywood is a city that has some stars on the sidewalk. I don’t know anyone from there. So, that’s like saying, calling yourself a ‘type’ of person. I’m not a Hollywood person. I don’t know who they are.”
“Okay, okay, well, let me rephrase the question,” she replied. “Are you one of those people who -“
“Ah, there you are,” Washington interrupted. “Am I one of those people? Hmmm, isn’t that interesting?”
“Oh, stop, stop, stop,” Couric replied, to which Washington replied, “No, don’t stop. I heard what you just said. ‘Am I one of those people?’ No I’m not. “
Couric responded by saying to the star, “No, are you an actor who would rather not …?”
“No, I’m not that either,” Washington added in response to being labeled an actor. “I am a human being. My job is to act.”
