Jacinda Ardern says she has confidence in her government ministers after a gag order email was sent to them after a dump of Covid-19 documents on Friday afternoon.

Hundreds of official documents, including minutes and advice on Covid-19, were released on Friday afternoon, followed by an email from the Prime Minister’s office, which was leaked to the media, instructing Ministers not to interview with the media on the published material.
At TVNZ1 breakfast this morning, host John Campbell said that while some people took the email as arrogance, he misinterpreted it as Ms. Ardern’s lack of trust in some of her ministers.
“I want to talk about [Tourism Minister] Kelvin Davis, is he the man to lead the recovery in a sector that employs 400,000 people? Campbell asked.
“Yes,” replied Mrs. Ardern.
He went on to say that he trusted his ministers and said that although he knew the documents were going to be published, he did not know that the email was being sent.
“That email, I would like to think that you would know me well enough to know that that would not be the language I would use. Arrogance is just, I hope, something that people would not see in my nature.”
Ms. Ardern then addressed “anxiety” in the tourism industry, indicating that there will be more funding for the sector in Thursday’s Budget.
