The NRL suspended Michael Jennings after the Eels center tested positive for banned substances, the league announced Saturday.
Jennings has been provisionally suspended after returning a positive A sample for Ligandrol and Ibutamoren and now has the opportunity to test his B sample.
It was tested on September 21 with the result received by Sport Integrity Australia on October 9.
Jennings was set to play in Saturday night’s knockout final against South Sydney.
“Michael Jennings has been removed from today’s game and ongoing training / game responsibilities while the process is ongoing, which per policy includes the opportunity to test his B sample,” the Eels said in a statement.
“The club has been in contact with Michael and will continue to offer him and his family our full wellness support.”
The 32-year-old former NSW Origin center and Tonga international signed a new contract with the Eels in July, keeping him at the club for the 2021 season with an option in his favor for 2022.
Brad Takairangi and Haze Dunster will start at the Eels’ baseline against the Rabbitohs, with winger Blake Ferguson also ruled out due to a knee injury.
More to come.
