Mike Hosking and Jacinda Ardern have been furious this year, but that doesn’t mean they can’t put all of that aside for the holiday season.
As Hosking was on his way to his summer vacation, he caught up with the Prime Minister for his annual gift exchange and, in typical 2020 style, exchanged gifts for Zoom.
Hosking kept the 2020 theme with her gift, while Jacinda opted for a more electoral present.
She pranked Hosking by gifting him a Labor billboard featuring the ZB host along with the Prime Minister herself – a gift that she says Hosking will love as the years go by.
“Your gift to me is quite smart, and I will treat it appropriately and put it in the right place. It is very good,” Hosking said on air.
“Do you want me on board? Have you seen my magnetism as a voter?” Hosking joked.
“In time I will learn to love him. I will take him straight to the billiard room.”
Next, Ardern unwrapped two gifts from Hosking, one for Neve and one for her.
Hosking gave Neve a Micky Mouse plush toy with Neve’s name engraved on Micky’s foot, which captivated Ardern as he unwrapped the gift.
“Neve’s gift is sensational. Ardern’s gift, God bless her for being a good athlete. It could have been either way.”
The ZB host pranked Ardern with his own gift for her, a series of face masks with his own face printed on the front.
“When I first opened it, I was briefly concerned that it was a thong,” Ardern laughed.
Before the exchange, Hosking spoke about his relationship with the Prime Minister.
He says audiences often misinterpret his heated debates on the air, confirming that he actually likes Ardern.
“We always get along, we just don’t agree on anything.
“People misunderstand my relationship with the Prime Minister. I really like her, and I think she also grudgingly respects me.
“It’s our job. It’s what we do. There’s nothing personal about it.”
