Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern insisted today that the government “faces every day” about Covid-19, after national leader Judith Collins appeared to question her responsibility.

The exchange came after Ardern said on Sunday that she was “incredibly angry” after learning of a Facebook post from Unite Against Covid-19 asking people in west and south Auckland to get tested for the viruses, even if they had no symptoms.
The post on the Unite Against Covid-19 Facebook page, shared on Saturday and tagged as an “important message,” urged people in the west and south of Auckland to get tested when possible.
However, the message was later revealed to be incorrect and has since been corrected to say that anyone with symptoms in these areas should seek testing.
On Parliament’s Question Time this afternoon, Collins repeatedly asked why Ardern did not address the wrong message about the Auckland tests until asked by journalists at the 1pm briefing on Sunday.
“The suggestion in some way that we were unwilling to acknowledge the incorrect publication of information, we are constantly available every day to answer questions about our Covid response, we are here to be responsible for our Covid response, we never shy away from that duty,” he said. Mrs. Ardern.
“If the member is assuming in some way that I wanted to share correct information at my booth rather than incorrect information that is for the member’s own interpretation, but I just don’t accept that we ever put ourselves in a position not to deal with it because we do every day. “
Ms. Ardern said she wanted to use the first 15 minutes of the briefing to give the correct information rather than address the wrong messages.
When pressured by Ms Collins, the Prime Minister said she knew reporters would ask about the wrong message and that she would have the opportunity to address it at that time.
At the briefing on Sunday, Ms Ardern said she was “incredibly angry” that the wrong advice had been aired on an official channel about Covid-19 testing in the west and south of Auckland.

“We have to be very clear in our communication, we have to be very direct in our questions and they will see that in a very dynamic environment, in general, we can be very, very consistent,” he said.
