Invercargill death: Police seek information on four vehicles seen in the area

Police have released information on four vehicles of interest following a multi-vehicle accident near Invercargill last week.

A father and his 5-month-old daughter were killed in the accident along the Winton-Lorneville Freeway (State Highway 6) on Wednesday.

It was initially reported that 22-year-old Matthew Dale Harris and Ruby Jane Harris were seriously injured after the accident, but later died from their injuries.

A teenager remains in critical condition at Dunedin Hospital, while three other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.

The road was initially closed when emergency services investigated the crash site, about 150 meters north of the Makarewa Bridge. Since then it has reopened.

Anyone in the area during or after the four-vehicle crash is urged to contact the police.

Police say anyone who saw four vehicles of interest in the area prior to the accident could help with the investigation.

Anyone who saw these vehicles in the area prior to the afternoon crash has also been asked to contact the police:

• An orange 2014 Ford Ranger ute, registration MHL704, towing a trailer.
• One gray 2013 Toyota RAV4 pickup, license plate HDW704
• A blue 2007 Mazda Atenza, registration LBF327
• A blue 2019 Mazda2, registration MPF649.

Three ambulances, two helicopters and a manager attended the crash site, along with New Zealand Fire & Emergency personnel and police.
