The 48-year-old was shot and killed in his Pimpama home earlier today after surviving a failed attempt to kill him in Melbourne three months ago.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith says Finks’ outlaw motorcycle gang member was shot and killed as he returned from the gym around 12.10 a.m.

“They took him to his garage and that’s when he was attacked,” he told reporters.

“He hasn’t even gotten out of his vehicle and has been shot several times.

“It clearly appears that he has been ambushed. He has been executed.”

Det Supt Smith said up to a dozen shots were fired with detectives looking for up to five people.

“The number of shots is quite surprising, it is significant,” he said. “He didn’t have time to open the door, he was shot through the window.”

Det Supt Smith said the assailants likely waited around the corner from Bowden’s house.

Later, two burned-out cars were found near Pimpama, and one of them is about a six-minute drive away.

Det Supt Smith said the motive for Bowden’s murder remains “unclear.”

“The deceased had an interesting background and history, so the reason could be several things,” he said.

“He’s in an outlaw motorcycle gang and that lifestyle carries its own risks and this is probably a consequence of that.

“It’s not something you expect to happen in your house, but … you live by the sword, you die by the sword.”

Det Supt Smith said the homicide was unlikely “from gang to gang” and was suspected to be the result of Bowden’s personal history and recent behavior.

Bowden was once part of Finks’ “terrorist team” and was jailed for the Gold Coast “ballroom bombing” fight in which three people were shot and two stabbed in 2006.

The former Mongolian outlaw cyclist was fined $ 750 earlier this month for causing a COVID-19 scare when he violated health restrictions while traveling from Victoria to Queensland.

Bowden flew in from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport on August 31, but provided false information about his border statement.

He had returned to Queensland to recover from infected gunshot wounds after being the target of a shooting from a vehicle on July 1.
