More police officers are patrolling the streets of Hawke’s Bay after several public incidents of gang activity. .

On Tuesday, police carried out search warrants at two addresses in Raupunga, 88 kilometers north of Napier, where they seized firearms and drugs. The arrests were “imminent,” police said in a statement.

Two days later, the police executed several search warrants at Napier’s addresses.

Inspector Martin James, prevention manager for the Hawke’s Bay area, said police took the incidents “extremely seriously.”

The police had increased their presence and were investigating the crime.

“The increased police presence has had a positive impact on reducing gang activity, yet we recognize that the tension still remains,” said James.

A heavy police presence will continue in the “impacted” areas of the region, he said.

The police had a “specific focus on gang activity and an emphasis on reducing and preventing the harm caused by these groups.”
