A young Australian, who wanted to try her luck on New Year’s Eve, has barely slept after discovering she had taken home $ 10 million in the Powerball drawing.
Wagga Wagga’s wife only thought about checking her ticket when she noticed it in her purse after welcoming 2021 with friends.
“I was with some friends after midnight, and I was just trying to find something in my bag. I saw my ticket and thought maybe the results were available,” he said.
“I checked the ticket in the app, but initially I didn’t know how much I had won. I had to ask my friend to verify it.
She was ranked the only division one winning entry in the Powerball drawing and won the AU $ 9.8 million ($ 10.47 million) jackpot, describing the victory as incredible.
“This ticket is maybe the third Powerball ticket I bought. I thought, it’s the end of the year and I should try my luck,” he said.
But the Riverina region resident does not rush to spend the money, stating that she had a priority first,
“I really just need to get some sleep,” he laughed. “I don’t know what exactly I’m going to do with my award. I will sit down and make a plan.
“All I know is that my life is really going to change. It’s a great way to start 2021.”
The winning numbers of the draw were 1, 11, 28, 8, 7, 2 and 16. The most important Powerball number was 7.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought her Lucky Crow Lotto ticket at Wagga Wagga.
Lucky Crow Lotto owner David Ritter said his team was delighted to discover that one of their clients had become a millionaire on New Year’s Eve.
“This is the first division winning entry that we have sold. We are very excited,” he said.
“The raven is a symbol of Wagga Wagga, that’s why we called our store Lucky Crow Lotto. It’s great to see that luck has landed for a Wagga Wagga resident.
“We wish our winner all the best with his award. We can’t wait to sell our next division.”
Of the 14 winning Powerball division one innings in the last financial year, seven landed in Queensland, four in New South Wales, two in Victoria and one in South Australia.
A Brisbane college student in his 20s earned AU $ 20 million ($ 21.4 million) a fortnight ago.
The last time a Powerball prize of 8 million Australian dollars ($ 8.55 million) was won was in May, when a retired couple from Townsville took two days to review their ticket and discover that they had won.
Townsville’s mother said that winning something so big overnight was amazing and she planned to use the money to help the family, donate to some charities, and buy a diamond ring that could become a family heirloom.
In 2020 there were 13 winning Powerball division one entries, ahead of the New Year’s Eve drawing, which collectively took home more than AU $ 460 million ($ 491 million) in prizes.
