A murder investigation was launched after a man was found dead at the scene of a house fire in Auckland’s Cockle Bay last month.

It comes after police were called to a property in Minerva Terrace on Oct. 20, where they found Wiremu Arapo, 27, dead at the scene, Acting Senior Detective Sgt. Craig Bolton said in a statement today.
After conducting a series of investigations and completing a post-mortem examination, the police are treating the death as a suspect.
Since then, a team of researchers has assembled to work on the investigation.

Two people who were injured in the fire were taken to hospital at the time of the incident and police have spoken with them as part of the investigation, Bolton said.
“I firmly believe that there are people who know what happened to Mr. Arapo and I am exhorting them to do the right thing and to get in touch with us,” he said.

“The police would like to assure the public that we have a committed team of detectives working on this matter.”
