The boy was struck on Ascot Ave around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday.

St John said they were taken to Starship Hospital in serious condition.

Principal Kyle Brewerton said it was a “big shock” to the school as they were not expecting it.

He understood that the student had suffered minor injuries after being hit by a truck while crossing the street.

Brewerton said the school’s priority now was to support its students who may have witnessed the incident.

She said the school was also aware of the student’s family and was in contact with them about how she was doing.

A Things The reporter at the scene said around 9.50 a.m. heavy traffic was spreading down Ascot Ave when one lane was closed.

He said police cones were lining up on the closed side of the road, which is just outside of intermission.

The Serious Accident Unit was investigating the collision.

A police spokeswoman previously said the boy had moderate injuries.

A lane of the highway was closed and the police warned of “slight delays”.
