Arthur Taylor has been called to prison.

Police arrived at Taylor’s home in Dunedin Saturday morning with an arrest warrant.

Taylor faces several new drug charges that were due to be heard in Dunedin District Court on December 17.

The charges, brought by Wellington police, were related to an alleged crime earlier in the year.

Taylor disputes the charges and had not yet seen a summary of the facts.

Corrections for Taylor’s recall were requested in early December, but the Parole Board rejected the request. The board had just relaxed conditions at Taylor that required him to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Taylor is on probation for a number of changes, including kidnapping and elopement. He was paroled in 2019 and his sentence ends in 2022. With more than 155 convictions for robbery, robbery, fraud and robbery, Taylor learned law in prison and successfully faced several prisoner rights cases.

Taylor was briefly called in June after being evicted from his Wellington accommodation. Corrections put him up at various motels before calling him. He was ordered not to be in Wellington without permission.

Taylor’s advocate, Hazel Heal, said her retirement was “very, very sad” and she feared the problem wouldn’t be resolved until the new year. Taylor has been living with Heal, a lawyer and human rights defender, since her release after a temporary retirement in July.

Police had no comment.

Corrections have been contacted.
