Armed police guard a property on Waitaki Street, Henderson, where a man has died.
A 39-year-old man has been taken into custody after being arrested and charged with the murder of another man in West Auckland.
Waitematā Police Detective Inspector Kevin McNaughton said police were called into a “riot” at an address on Waitaki St, Henderson, around 9.15pm Thursday.
They found a man, 62, seriously injured, who died at the scene.
McNaughton said police had been investigating overnight to locate the alleged offender.
He was discovered by an off-duty police officer Friday morning who called 111.
“Police arrived quickly and located the 39-year-old man,” McNaughton said.
It is believed that the alleged offender and the victim knew each other.
The man appeared before Judge Kevin Glubb in Waitākere District Court on Friday afternoon.

There were also two police officers in the courtroom.
The man was granted provisional name suppression and placed in pretrial detention without a guilty plea.
He will appear in Auckland High Court on December 2.
Police said they were not yet in a position to reveal the name of the victim, as formal identification procedures had to be carried out.
“As this matter is now before the courts, we will not be in a position to provide further details.”
A Things The reporter at the scene described the street as quiet in the wake of the incident.
Two police officers were seen standing in front of a property shortly after 7:30 a.m.
Police tape had cordoned off three houses, while a blue tent could be seen in the garden of one.
A couple across the street said they were surprised to find that a homicide investigation was underway.
“We were watching Alcoholic Beverage Patrol in the classroom around 8pm last night when I could see flashing lights. At first I thought it was the show and then I realized it was outside. “
The neighbor said there was a “huge” police presence on the street Thursday night along with an ambulance.
“We’ve never had a problem here and we’ve been here for 16 years.”
The neighbor said that he did not know the people on the other side of the street, but that he had seen them a couple of times and believed they were long-time residents of the street.
