Harry and Meghan surprise poetry students with Zoom’s appearance

A group of young poets were stunned when none other than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex showed up for their online poetry class over the weekend.

Prince Harry and Meghan were surprise guests of honor for a Black History Month Zoom event hosted by the Get Lit poetry group, stopping by to share their favorite poetry and hear student work.

In a screenshot shared by Get Lit on Instagram, Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, are seen grinning from ear to ear as they introduce themselves to participants in the free class.

The aspiring poets, aged 13 to 19, are seen smiling and gaping at the couple in response.

“We’ve saved the best for last! Guess who surprised our poetry class this weekend?” said the caption.

“It was the best weekend! Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were magical, kind and interested in poetry!

“The Duchess even shared some of her favorite lines of poetry. We are so grateful for her visit in honor of Black History Month. It is considered the most epic experience in Get Lit history !!!”

While the group did not reveal which poems the duchess read from, Meghan previously recited lines from Matt Haig’s A Note from the Beach and quoted pieces by Maya Angelou.

Elsewhere on social media, the teacher who led the class thanked Meghan for encouraging her students to use their voices to inspire change.

“So Prince Harry and Meghan walked into my poetry class on Saturday and kicked it with Get Lit Players for a multitude of minutes,” wrote poetry teacher Mason Granger.

“My favorite part of all this was that Meghan echoed so many feelings that we have talked about in class, about this particular moment in time / history for being a young person and the domino effect of one voice.”

Several of the class participants also shared their gratitude for Meghan and Harry’s participation, describing the experience as “incredible.”

The appearance comes as Meghan is reportedly exploring her own options as a writer featured on the back of her poignant New York Times article last year, and Vanity Fair reports she was approached by “lucrative offers from reputable publishers.” to write a book.

In December, a source told the Mail on Sunday that Meghan was obtaining legal protection that would allow her to publish books through her and Harry’s nonprofit Archewell.

“Fiction is something you’ve always wanted to try your luck at, and you can be sure that whatever you write would sell well regardless of its quality,” the source said.

“Fiction, whether it’s children’s or adult books, would be a powerful way to convey your awakened brand messages.”

She certainly wouldn’t be the first royal to do so.

In 1980, Prince Charles published the children’s book The Old Man of Lochnagar, a story that he reportedly came up with to entertain his younger brothers Andrew and Edward on their Balmoral vacation, to raise money for the charity The Prince’s Trust.

Sarah, Duchess of York, also has her own Budgie The Little Helicopter book series, which were turned into a television show in the late 1990s.

Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan also ran her own lifestyle blog, The Tig, and could reportedly also publish “general feature magazines and print periodicals” under the Archewell brand.

After announcing that they would be stepping down as royalty, Meghan and Harry signed deals with Spotify and Netflix in 2020, which were reportedly worth more than $ 253 million.

Meghan and Harry have been said to be “modeling themselves on the Obamas,” who have also published several best-selling books.
