Bir Bahadur Poudel, 69, has been missing for 15 days, while searches continue to find him.
The grandson of a man missing for two weeks expects him to return for his seventh birthday next month.
Bir Bahadur Poudel, 69, lives with her son Gopal Poudyel on John F Kennedy Drive, Palmerston North. He left his home at 8.30 a.m. on October 23 and has not been seen since.
Poudel is close to his grandchildren, Pravash, 6, and Prayash, 8.
He spends a lot of time with them and loves to take them to Milson School every day.

“The second grandfather disappeared, they were crying all the time,” Poudyel said.
Prayash will be 7 on December 4 and wants Poudel to be home by then.
“Expect to be home for the party. Even the teacher said that they are asking for it at the school ”.
Poudyel said that his father liked to walk long distances and that he visited homes in Bhutan for a cup of tea. But he always came back at night.
People have been searching the city all week, as Poudel’s trips often take him from Milson across town to Highbury, where he has friends, and to the central business district.
Poudyel said the family was hopeful that Poudel would return home and was grateful that people were helping in the search.
They had been searching the neighborhood daily.
“We are very happy because people are seeing it, a lot of sightings.”
Poudel was not wearing warm clothing and was wearing a black turtleneck and light gray pants.
There was confusion about which hat he had. It was either a Bhutan cap or a navy blue wool hat with white and red stripes.
Poudel had been taking English classes for about three years, but had a hard time understanding sentences.
Hamish Price of Palmerston North had been overseeing community searches throughout the region.
He meets with police officers regularly and shares information about search efforts.
“They know as much as I do, which is that he got out of his driveway and no one knows which way he turned or went after that.”
Price said people were determined to search until they knew what happened.
A week ago a Facebook group, with an online map, was created to track progress and coordinate searches. The group, called Search for Bir, has nearly 1,000 members.
More than 5000 brochures have been printed and will be distributed over the weekend.
A police spokeswoman said officers continued to carry out “a series of investigations” into Poudel’s disappearance and whereabouts.
The police also kept in contact with community patrols to coordinate their respective efforts.
