A Grand Designs NZ The beachfront property in Mangawhai has reached a record price for the municipality.
Remax’s listing agent Ben Klopper says the “jetty house” sold for $ 4 million, beating the previous local record of $ 2.975 million.
The house was sold after negotiations immediately after it was approved at auction. “There were eight bidders and they all thought it would stop at $ 3.5 million,” says Klopper. “A family bought it and they are very happy.”
The “jetty house”, built by Patty and Geoff Coley, was one of the most ambitious constructions to project Grand Designs NZ. Notable for its shed-style architecture and recycled materials, the house featured 100-year-old brick and massive beams built from iron bark lumber from the old Wellington ferry dock.

For Patty Coley, the project was also the culmination of years of collecting vintage and vintage items in preparation. But now the couple say they have “itchy fingers” and want to do it all over again, albeit on a slightly smaller scale.
When the house was listed last month, Coley said Things the couple are looking for a suitable construction site. They want to stay in Mangawhai but are prepared to sit back and wait for the correct plot. “I’m looking every day and I have agents who keep their eyes open.”
He said the next project will be similar but not a replica. “Whoever stays with this house will only get once. There will be no other like it. “
During the show, the couple were not specific about construction costs, but admitted that it was higher than the $ 1.3 million budget.
