Lydia Ko has burst into the fray at the final stop of the LPGA Tour after shooting the best second round of the tournament on Saturday morning.
After posting a disappointing two-over par 74 in the first round, Ko showcased talent that has earned him more than $ NZ15 million in career earnings as part of an exciting round of 65 today.
Ko led all players with her seven-under-par score that included seven birdies, three on the last three holes of her first nine.
“Yesterday I had had enough of my game and my golf … today I came saying that I would try to play the best I could with a lot of confidence and that my irons and shots to the green were really good, so I prepared many birdie opportunities and I was able to do some of them, “Ko told the media after completing his round.
Ko, who holds the record 62 at the Tiburon Golf Club in Florida, said he had some hope from previous performances at the CME Group Tour Championship, but found that the freedom of knowing he was so far from containment actually It helped her relax and focus on her own game, rather than putting pressure on qualifying.
“Today, when I was going out, I really wanted to play the best golf I could, and not really think about my position and I think that definitely helped.”
The brilliant round took Ko from 59th place to tie for 11th in the middle of the tournament, four shots behind Korea’s Jin Young Ko.
The CME Group Tour Championship is the final tournament of the year for the LPGA Tour.
