There are no images of Lee’s debacle, but the 30-year-old refuses to speak to the media before withdrawing from the tournament, citing a wrist injury.
As Lee struggles, American Matthew Wolff, playing solo in his second major, stole the show with a scorching start and a firm finish to take an unlikely two-shot lead over big hitter Bryson DeChambeau after the third round.
The 21-year-old Wolff started the day four shots behind night leader Patrick Reed, but erased that deficit over seven holes en route to a five-under 65 that tied the week’s low round and took him to five under. .
“I like to go out there and do whatever I feel comfortable with, rip dog and see how it goes from there,” says Wolff, who will be looking to become the first player to win the US Open in his tournament debut since Francis Ouimet 1913.
“I’m comfortable with every part of my game, so I don’t like to shy away from things when I’m feeling confident, and I’ll probably do the same tomorrow.”
