CCTV is being examined after an incident in which a South Auckland school was closed.

Kelvin Road School in Papakura was closed at around 1.15pm after two girls, known to a student, attempted to remove the student from the school grounds.

A staff member received minor injuries while trying to detain the couple, police said.

Principal Heather Tanner said the two girls were found on the school grounds after they were denied entry.

They had found an alternative way to enter the school through other property.

“Fortunately, our systems ensured that the classroom teacher was aware of the attempted visit and so quickly responded upon arrival,” he said.

Police are now investigating the incident and CCTV is being reviewed.

Tanner said she did not want to share too many details out of concern for the privacy of the student involved and the ongoing police investigation.

“However, we can confirm that two young men had a connection to the student in question and we do not anticipate any further problems,” he said.

While the incident was “disturbing,” it was “isolated,” he said.

“The police were very positive about the school’s security system and procedures.

“I am pleased to report that the school is established and operating as usual today with our staff monitoring everyone’s well-being to ensure they are not impacted by this incident.

“The staff and interested students are doing well and receiving support.”

A police spokesman said no charges have been filed and investigations are ongoing.
